Effective Essay Writing Requires an Introduction and a Conclusion

Essay writing is the term used to describe a literary composition in the academic arena, and it usually employs the essay writing format. An essay consists generally, in broad strokes, of an essay which presents the author’s argument, however the exact definition is quite vague, probably overlapping with that of a personal letter, a research paper, a newspaper article, an essay, and even a short story. Essays are traditionally usually formal and analytical. The word “essay” is derived from the word “epistemus” which was used by the ancient Greeks to refer to a composition of prose.

The majority of essays have an introduction or a focal point. This is a brief, single line which sets the context of the essay and acts as an important point of reference for writing. The thesis statement is commonly used as a main clause or at the start of the essay writing. In English, the thesis statement usually states what the essay is referring to: either the writer’s opinion or the interpretation of evidence presented. The thesis statement in an essay may also be related to the specific topic, the writer is studying. If the essay concerns the past of the United States of America, the thesis statement could state that American history was shaped by multiple influences.

The first step to writing is to narrow down the subject. This is done by selecting a specific and narrow topic – such as an essay on Shakespeare or the work of Van Gogh. The essay writing process starts with the structuring of the essay’s content. Many writers begin their research by reading scholarly books and articles to get a broad understanding on the topic that the essay is about. From there, they can create an outline for their essay writing and outline the key aspects they intend to cover in their essay.

After the outline is drawn out and the outline is completed, writing can begin. The majority of good essay writing begins with an introduction. The introduction introduces the reader for the essay writing. The writer addresses this by giving a synopsis of the thesis statement in the intro, and briefly addressing the topic. Then follows a discussion of the topic and the use of the written information to help support the thesis statement in the essay.

Both the conclusion and closing sentences are equally important in essay writing. The conclusion is the last paragraph that explains the overall thesis statement. A good essay should always include the conclusion. The conclusion should be strong and make a compelling argument for the reader to be able to comprehend the logic and the facts supporting the thesis statement. The introduction and conclusion should be well-organized to make the most of the information available.

The introduction and conclusion must be sufficient to let the reader follow the flow and direction of the essay. The most effective essays have a strong introduction and a concluding paragraph to keeps the reader interested in the rest of the essay. This allows the essay structure to be easily followed. After the writing process for essays has begun, the writer should have a clear idea about how many sentences should be included.
